Public Comments Summary
Section 515 of the Treasury and General Government Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) directed the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to issue government-wide guidelines to ensure and maximize the quality, utility, objectivity, integrity, transparency, and reproducibility of information disseminated by federal agencies. In response, OMB issued 67 FR 8452 (February 22, 2002) requiring each federal agency subject to the Paperwork Reduction Act (44 U.S.C. Chapter 35) to issue its own guidelines and to provide the public with an administrative means for requesting corrections of information.
The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) posted its draft Quality Guidelines and Correction Procedures to the NASS Web Site for review and comment as of March 27, 2002 and kept the materials resident on the Web Site until September 30, 2002. NASS did not receive any agency specific comments during that period. All comments were on the general aspects and interpretations of the new federal requirements. The United States Department of Agriculture received the same comments and has provided detailed responses at its Web Site (http://www.ocio.usda.gov/irm/qi_guide/index.html). NASS does not have any additional responses.
