Norman Bennett
Director, Eastern Field Operations
Norman Bennett has served as the Eastern Field Operations Director at NASS since January 2011. He is responsible for oversight of personnel, budget, facilities and overall operations of 24 eastern Field Offices, including an office in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
After earning a degree in Agricultural Economics from North Carolina State University, Bennett began his civil service career with the USDA’s Farmers Home Administration in his home state of North Carolina. Since joining NASS, Norman has served in three field offices including as Deputy Director for the Arizona Field Office and a four year stint as Director of the Maryland Field Office. His headquarters assignments included a significant role in developing and implementing the NASS environmental statistics program. Most recently Norman served as Chief of the Survey Administration Branch with oversight for the Agency’s survey programs.
In addition to domestic assignments, Bennett has been involved in projects providing technical assistance to Nicaragua and has participated in international conferences in Belgium, Canada and Mexico.
Bennett completed the Department’s Senior Executive Career Development Program in the fall of 2008 which resulted in a Certificate of Public Administration from American University’s Key Executive Leadership Program and Office of Personal Management certification in July 2009. As part of the program Norman worked as Senior Agricultural Policy Advisor to U.S. Senator Jon Tester from Montana.
