Marshall L. Dantzler
Deputy Administrator for Field Operations


Marshall L. Dantzler serves as the Deputy Administrator for Field Operations for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). Dantzler previously served as the Director of the Census and Survey Division.

After growing up on a farm in South Carolina, Dantzler began his career with NASS in 1965 as a student trainee in the South Carolina Field Office. Upon graduation from Clemson University, he began full-time work with the agency and has since worked in the South Carolina, North Carolina, Hawaii and Alabama field offices.

Dantzler has participated in several career opportunities, which include serving as the Assistant to Administrator Bill Kibler and contributing to the first science and technology exchange with China, being detailed to the Office of the Secretary as a member of the Information Resource Management Task Force charged with implementation of Paperwork Reduction Act and serving with the Secretary of Agriculture's staff on a team recommending the USDA's initial State Food and Agriculture Councils.

Dantzler currently resides in Chantilly, Virginia, with his wife Joyce, Principal of Centre Ridge Elementary School, and his two sons, Mark and Brian.
