Janice A. Goodwin,
Associate Deputy Administrator for Field Operations
Janice A. Goodwin serves as the Associate Deputy Administrator for Field Operations, specializing in the Midwestern and Western Areas and Budget Administration for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). She is responsible for overseeing the operations of 21 Midwestern and Western field offices, and also serves as the Agency's Chief Financial Officer.
Goodwin began her career at NASS as a student intern working in the Pennsylvania field office and has since moved on to various positions in the Illinois and Oregon field offices. Additionally, she traveled to Nicaragua as a member of the NASS technical team to improve their agricultural statistics program. Most recently, Goodwin served as Director of the Oregon Field Office, prior to accepting her current position.
Goodwin completed two special assignments outside NASS. In 1993, she worked with the Joint Program in Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland for four months, coordinating customer service survey training programs for federal agencies. Later, she was a LEGIS Fellow with the Brookings Institution, which culminated in a six-month fellowship on Capitol Hill working with the House Appropriations Committee's agriculture subcommittee and with the House Agriculture Committee during the early debate and policy development of the 2002 Farm Bill.
Goodwin grew up on a dairy farm in northeastern Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University, graduating with Bachelor of Science degrees in Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. She and her husband, James Copp, have a son, William, and daughter, Keon.
