Starting with the 2001 season, the entire US NDVI composite for a biweekly period was converted to a GeoTiff image for use in geographic information systems software. (This year will be loaded as the growing season progresses). For 2001 through 2003, only the even biweekly periods were processed and available for downloading. As with the graphics products, these images are not water vapor corrected. Due to the size of these files (13-14 MB), each GeoTiff has been compressed into a "Tar" format file for easier download (4-5 MB), Winzip can be used to uncompress the files. Filenames for download are arranged by biweekly 'Period' number within 'year'.
The AVHRR images are projected using the Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area projection, with image characteristics of 1,000 x 1,000 meter pixels, an upper left "X" coordinate of -2,050,000 and an upper left "Y" coordinate of 752,000 , single band, 8 bits, Band Interleaved by Pixel (BIP), number of rows 2889 and columns 4587 and no header bytes.
Please download this projection file to properly define and spatially reference the Lambert Azimutal Equal Area projection when processing with ArcGIS applications.
