NASS to Resurvey Corn Producers in Dakotas Due to Late Harvest

Issued April 14, 2010 by the Agricultural Statistics Board of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Statistics Service. For more information contact Lance Honig at (202) 720-2127 or

In the May 11 Crop Production report, USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) may publish updated estimates for 2009 corn acreage, yield, production and stocks in North Dakota and South Dakota.

When producers were surveyed in late November and early December, there was significant corn acreage still unharvested in the Dakotas. The unharvested area and expected production were included in the Crop Production 2009 Summary released on January 12.

At the end of April, NASS will re-contact respondents who previously reported acreage not yet harvested. If the newly collected data justifies any changes, NASS will include updated estimates in the May 11 report.

December 1 stocks estimates are also subject to review since unharvested production was included in the estimate of on-farm stocks.
