NASS to Release First Fats and Oils Report on October 1

Issued Sept. 30, 2015 by the Agricultural Statistics Board of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Statistics Service. For more information contact Jasmine Kahani Shanti at (202) 503-5907 or jasmine.shanti@nass.usda.gov.

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service will release its first Fats and Oils: Oilseed Crushings, Production, Consumption and Stocks report Oct. 1, at 3:00 p.m. ET. This Current Agricultural Industrial Report (CAIR), originally scheduled for release on Aug. 3, will contain data for the months of May-August to include:

  • Monthly crush and production of crude oil from agricultural commodities for selected states and the United States;
  • U.S. production and consumption of selected fats and oils products for edible and inedible uses; and
  • U.S. end-of-month stocks for selected fats and oils.

NASS delayed producing the Fats and Oils report from Aug. 3 in order to obtain sufficient survey responses to publish accurate, official government statistics. NASS thanks all those who have now responded and encourages continued cooperation.

NASS will also publish two additional reports within the CAIR program on Oct. 1. These are Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production, and Cotton System Consumption and Stocks. Data obtained from CAIR reports help decision makers, including those in agricultural industries analyze markets, forecast and make strategic business decisions.

Congress authorized and appropriated funds for NASS to administer the CAIR program. These reports, previously published by the U.S. Census Bureau, but not available since 2012, are crucial to U.S. economic policy.

All NASS reports are available online at www.nass.usda.gov.
