FLORIDA: The forecast of avocados for certified shipments for the 2001-2002
season is 950,000 bushels. This is five percent less than the 1,005,000
bushels shipped last season. Ten years ago, in the season before Hurricane
Andrew, over 1,100,000 bushels were shipped.
  Estimated shipments through July total almost 200,000 bushels, slightly
more than the latest five season average to date. Maturity levels were low
at the start of the season but increased rapidly in late July.

  Bearing acres (trees planted in 1997 and earlier) are estimated at 5,900.
Some trees have been lost to flooding conditions in the last year.
Production from some groves has also been severely reduced because of high
water tables.

CALIFORNIA: Shipments through July total 6,736,000 bushel equivalents,
almost 25 percent more than the previous season. A very large total crop of
over 8 million bushel equivalents is expected for the season that ends
October 31.

        FLORIDA: Certified shipments of avocados, 2001-2002 season,
