AVOCADO PRODUCTION AND VALUE

FLORIDA: Production of avocados fell almost 12 percent from the previous season to 920,000 bushels. The previous seasons' 1,040,000 bushels produced was the highest amount since the 1991-92 season. Damage to trees and their root systems from heavy rains in the fall limited production this season on several hundred acres.

Average prices received for fruit delivered to the packing house door was higher this season and, even with the reduced crop size, the total value received increased slightly.

OTHER STATES: California's crop was the largest in many seasons at 8,520,000 equivalent bushels. Prices received fell to $36.50 per bushel with total value down slightly. The Hawaii crop size increased slightly with prices near the same.Total value increased slightly.
