AVOCADO PRODUCTION AND VALUE

FLORIDA: Production of avocados increased from the previous season by 320,000 bushels, or almost 35 percent. This production of 1,240,000 bushels is the largest crop since the 1,340,000 bushels produced in the 1989-90 season. The record crop of 1,388,000 bushels was produced in the 1982-83 season.

Bearing acreage is estimated at 5,900 acres, unchanged from last season. The total value of the crop is a record $17,236,000, even though prices paid to growers for fruit delivered to the packinghouse door were down from the previous season.

OTHER STATES: While California's 2001-02 production is down seven percent, average prices and total value are up. Hawaii's production fell slightly as did the average price per bushel and total value. Bearing acreage for both states has declined over the last five years.

LIME PRODUCTION

Estimates of production of limes have been discontinued. Less than 400 acres remain as most trees have been pushed out because of citrus canker.
