Return to the Table of Contents for Publications ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FARM CASH RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURES - 1999 August 2000 Florida Agricultural Statistics Service | 1222 Woodward Street | Orlando, Florida 32803 | 407 / 648-6013 ------------------------------------------------------------- FLORIDA CASH RECEIPTS The Economic Research Service, USDA, reports that receipts from Florida agricultural products in 1999 amounted to $7.07 billion. This is a 1.5 percent increase from the previous year. Cash receipts from all crops increased 2.3 percent from 1998, and cash receipts from all livestock and livestock products decreased by only 1.9 percent. Receipts from all crops accounted for 80.7 percent of all cash receipts. As in previous years, the leading crop commod ities were oranges, foliage and floriculture, sugarcane, and tomatoes. The leading livestock commodities were milk, cattle and calves, and broilers. [Pie chart for FLORIDA AGRICULTURE CASH RECEIPTS, 1999 in %] CITRUS Cash receipts from citrus crops amounted to $1.92 billion dollars, an increase of 14.4 percent from 1998. Sales of citrus commodities accounted for 27.1 percent of all sales in Florida. (Receipts for citrus are on a "delivered in" basis without discounting picking and hauling costs.) Sales of grapefruit were up from $151 million in 1998 to $213 million in 1999. Sales from oranges ($1.6 billion) and limes ($6.71 million) increased from the previous year. VEGETABLES AND MELONS Cash receipts from vegetable and melon crops amounted to $1.4 billion in 1999, down 11.6 percent from 1998, and accounted for 19.8 percent of the total cash receipts. Toma toes and green peppers accounted for most of the decrease from a year earlier. Cucumbers, eggplant, radishes snap beans, sweet corn, and watermelons all showed an increase from last year. Receipts of tomatoes, at $391.7 million, accounted for 28 percent of all vegetable and melon receipts and 5.5 percent of all cash receipts. FIELD CROPS Receipts for field crops amounted to $684.5 million, up 2.5 percent from last year. Sugarcane, at $519.7 million, increased 8.6 percent from 1998 and accounts for 76 percent of the field crop receipts and 7.4 percent of all cash receipts. Hay receipts, 21.5 million, were up 9.5 percent from the previous year. LIVESTOCK Total cash receipts from livestock and livestock products were $1.36 billion, down 1.9 percent from the previous year, and account for 19.3 percent of all cash receipts.
