ga-crop-weather State Georgia Crop Weather Week Ending Date February 12, 2006 Issue GA-CW0606 Agricultural Summary February 12, 2006 WINTER WEATHER ARRIVES Colder and drier conditions returned to the state of Georgia, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office. Although some areas of the state received precipitation, the second week of February was one of the driest of the year so far. Overall, soil moisture conditions were rated 1 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 25 percent surplus. Heavy hay feeding to livestock continued. Wet soil delayed field preparation in some areas. However, many farmers were able to apply lime and chicken litter to their pastures and hayfields. Growers of small grains continued topdressing their crops. Vidalia salad onions were harvested. Cabbage transplanting continued. Many farmers sampled soil in preparation for upcoming crops. Other activities included field preparation and routine care of poultry and livestock.
