ga-crop-weather State Georgia Crop Weather Week Ending Date February 26, 2006 Issue GA-CW0806 Agricultural Summary February 26, 2006 MORE RAIN Scattered showers fell across the State last week, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office. Rain fall varied from one to three inches depending on location. Temperatures for the week were near normal to slightly below normal. Soil moisture conditions were rated 2 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 35 percent surplus. Overall, vegetables and small grain for grazing were rated in good to fair conditions. Many farmers continued to apply lime and chicken litter to their pastures and hayfields. In Southeast Georgia, corn producers expected to start planting in the next few weeks. Producers continued to prepare soil and the general maintenance of equipment for spring planting. Onions appeared in good condition. County Extension Agents reported an average of 4.2 days suitable for fieldwork.
