ga-crop-weather State Georgia Crop Weather Week Ending Date November 27, 2006 Issue GA-CW4706 Agricultural Summary November 27, 2006 LOW PRESSURE BRINGS CLOUDS AND WARMER TEMPERATURES A low pressure system off the coast of the Carolinas brought cloudy skies and warmer temperatures to Georgia last week, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office. The week began with sunshine and highs only in the 50's. Clouds moved in the with low pressure system, and temperatures rose into the 70's by the end of the week. Some counties in east central Georgia reported light winter precipitation. Weeklong lows were in the mid 30's. Soil moisture conditions were rated at 5% very short, 21% short, 71% adequate, and 3% surplus. Hay supplies remain short and livestock producers continued feeding winter hay. The peanut harvest was completed this week. The cotton will be completed very soon. More cotton producers were mowing cotton stalks and harrowing fields this week. Recent rains have been beneficial for producers still planting wheat. Yield for early maturing soybeans has been better than expected. Other activites include harvesting cabbage and Vidalia salad onions. County Extension Agents reported an average of 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork. Finally got all of the peanuts out last week. Producers are busy putting in wheat. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Warmer than average temperatures. Small grains and winter grazing planting nearing completion. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Good rains recently will allow for all wheat to be planted on time, before December. Cotton yields continue to be surprisingly good and of high quality.
