DISTRICT COMMENTS September 2, 2007 DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST There have been scattered showers all around us but missing the county. Scattered showers. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Getting first scattered showers in almost thirty days. Spotty showers. A sustained general rain is needed to relieve the drought. Scattered rain...helping pastures. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST Dry conditions persist. Rain limited to scattered showers. Much rain is needed to improve forage conditions and to produce hay for winter. Situation critical. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Have had a few scattered showers this week. Rain this week and more expected, hooray. Cooler temperatures. Combined it has allowed recovery to begin in forage crops. Winter grazing plans are being made and seed availability/price checked. Hay feeding continues, supplies are available but still limited if you can afford it. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Scattered showers throughout the week. More in some areas of the county than others. Some areas got 2-3 inches or more while other only got around an inch total. Pond and stream levels still really low. Scattered showers have helped summer grasses grow in those areas that received rain. Finally began receiving some scattered rain this week - slight improvement in areas across county where more rainfall has occurred in scattered thunderstorms. Rain was greatly appreciated! Not much haying last week. Looking forward to a dry week for haying. Dimilin and Boron being sprayed on soybeans. Pecan limbs falling due to heavy weight. Rains began falling last Friday and off and on through the weekend and this week. Temperatures have backed off to the upper 80's and 90's. Grass in pastures have begun to recover and the prospects for getting another hay cutting look a lot better than a week ago. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Getting frequent showers. Much needed rain improved crop conditions. Scattered showers have helped. Temperatures are moderating. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST First field of peanuts were dug and harvested this week. No grade yet. Regular adequate rains being received. Corn harvest delayed a little by rains. We received 2.02" of rainfall. Crop condition overall is good. Hay shortage. Beef producers reducing herd size due to hay shortage. Some beef herds completely sold out. Scattered rains brought some relief in scattered areas of the county. Crop progressing on schedule. Cooler temperatures have taken some of stress off crops. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Thunderstorms regularly. Rainfall amounts vary across county and area. Stripping tobacco in some fields. Applying Dimilin and Boron on soybeans. No rust found yet. Spraying peanuts with fungicides and insecticides. Cutting and baling hay in between rains. Planting fall cabbage. Combining corn. Good yields overall. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
