ga-crop-weather State Georgia Crop Weather Week Ending Date November 30, 2008 Issue GA-CW4808 Agricultural Summary December 1, 2008 COOL TEMPERATURES Cool temperatures slowed crop progress in the state, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office. Daily average high temperatures were in the upper 50's and lower 60's most of the week. Average lows were in the upper 30's. Soil moisture conditions were rated at 3% very short, 13% short, 54% adequate, and 30% surplus. Some crops suffered freeze damage from the cold weather. The rain received late in the week improved soil moisture conditions in some areas. The weekend rains slowed cotton picking. Other activities included harvesting soybeans, planting small grain for grazing, irrigating crops as needed and applying fertilizer. County Extension Agents reported an average of 4.4 days suitable for fieldwork. DISTRICT COMMENTS November 30, 2008 DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST Have had a slow soaking rain for the past several days. We have had snow and sleet this morning. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Routine care of livestock and poultry. Short pastures. Very short soil moisture. Light snow falling today. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST Received 1.5 to 1.9 inches of rain. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Heavy rains over the weekend. Three+ inches in most areas of the county. We were fortunate to have gotten quite a bit of rainfall over the past week which has helped us with our deficit. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Received 4.4 inches of rainfall this weekend. We were very short prior to Saturday/Sunday. Finally through with peanuts, will be picking cotton at least two more weeks. Almost 4" of rain over weekend. Yields pretty good. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST One to two inches of rainfall during Thanksgiving. We received plenty of rain over the weekend. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL The county received 3 plus inches of rain during this reporting period. We still have some soybean and cotton to be harvested! The cold weather has damage our pastures, however growers have put-up-lot hay! DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST
