DISTRICT COMMENTS January 11, 2009 DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST We received heavy rains this week with a lot of creeks and rivers out of banks causing flooding. Water is receding fairly quickly though. Ponds are full but I noticed this morning that some ponds are noticeably receding. Even though the rains are welcome, I am not convinced that the effects of the drought are over yet. More than 6" of rain has made the soil soggy. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL We picked up any where from 5-7" of rain depending on your location in the county. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Rain 8 of 12 days in '09 has helped considerably, for the first time in a while there are wet spots in fields, ponds are slowly filling. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Some showers and very windy. Hay feeding for livestock increasing due to declining pasture conditions. We have gotten around 1.18 inches of rainfall since January 1, 2009. Things are still very dry. Small grains progressing. Some fields showing early signs of needing nitrogen applications. 1 to 4 tillers on wheat. Winter grazing looking good. Received about 3 tenths of an inch of rain Saturday night/Sunday morning. Weeds popping up everywhere due to warm weather in December. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL No comments available. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST High winds damage in the south part of the county, but I know of no significant agricultural damage. Fields too wet to do any work at this time. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL We had high winds during this week, some rain has occurred during the report period. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
