DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Major activities include hay baling, spraying commercial vineyards, and routine care of livestock. Scattered high winds and rain in some locations this week. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL It is dry. Hot and dry allowed lots of hay making, great progress on planting soybeans, millets. Need rain this week. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Very hot and dry! Needing rain badly. Wheat harvest nearing completion. The temperatures are now reaching the 90's and we've had 0.45 of an inch of rainfall. After a greater than normal rainfall this spring the last couple of weeks has been very hot and dry. The soil is starting to get very dry with very few hit and miss showers around. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Getting very dry again and herbicide-resistant pigweeds are suppressed in most places with adequate rainfall when pre-emerge herbicides were applied. Best control is in peanut fields that used Valor. Almost every cotton and soybean field has some escaped pigweeds. Cotton has some excellent stands due to moist planting conditions. Soybean emergence is getting more questionable as temps heat up and moisture disappears. Peanuts getting foliar disease fungicide applications. Northern corn blight confirmed in the county but corn, in general, looks very good with little insect or disease pressure at present. Some soybean planting still being done but should conclude by 4th of July weekend. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Heat stressing corn. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Need rain. Irrigation of corn. Replanting peanuts. Spraying cotton for weeds and wrapping up late planting. Tobacco crop is worst I have seen and weedy cotton. This week has very dry, good field working conditions for our farmers; hay, pastures, completing planting cotton and double cropping. Cantaloupe harvest has been ongoing for two weeks, but watermelon harvest is very slow to begin. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
