DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Second and some third cuttings of hay have been ongoing over the last few days. As expected, quality has been low with low yields. In pastures, weed control has been a problem this year with all the rainy weather. Most farmers have just resorted to bush hogging weeds throughout the season. Cool weather, army worms still active. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Armyworms not as active over the past week. Fewer calls into the office. Scattered showers throughout the county. Overall, good soil moisture. The county has had spotty yet severe Armyworm damage over the past week. Rain would be timely this week. Need rain badly! DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We had rainfall on 5 days over the past 7 days. We are bracing for our annual armyworm infestation. Temperatures have cooled to the 60's in the mornings and the 80's in the afternoon periods. Fantastic rains came beginning last Thursday and continued through Sunday. Many places getting between 2.5 to 6 inches. Helped replenish soil moisture in a big way. Pasture and hayfields beginning to recover due to the rains. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Medium to heavy infestations of army worms in hay fields and pastures. Got a good, general, timely rain that should leave us about one more rain short of really making soybeans. Peanuts will do well with one more rain also. Dry land cotton and corn are two biggest disappointments. That wet, cool May lowered corn yields by 10-15%. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST We have experienced cool temperatures this week. Peanut harvest just beginning. Corn harvest winding up. Fall armyworms a big problem in cotton and peanuts. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Worms in soybeans and hayfields. Some nematode damage showing up in cotton on stressed fields. Getting much needed rain but worried about diseases in peanuts and soybeans and leaf spot in cotton. Most growers finishing up picking tobacco and harrowing stalks. Some aerial application of fungicides, insecticides and foliar feed on crops. Corn yields are reported as below average due to excessive rain, heat, drought and diseases The county continues to get rains, the rains are problem for hay farmers and others growers are really enjoying the rains. The fall vegetables fields are getting wet and presenting some problems with ground spray equipment. We will need some dry weather after labor day for fall harvesting. Much of the cotton is near cutout. Majority of the peanut crop will be harvested in early October. Corn harvest hampered by daily rain showers but should pick back up next week. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
