ga-crop-weather State Georgia Crop Weather Week Ending Date October 13, 2009 Issue GA-CW4109 Agricultural Summary October 13, 2009 DELAYED HARVEST The State received significant rainfall during the week, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office. Daily average high temperatures were in the 80's most of the week. Average lows were in the 60's. Soil moisture conditions were rated at 1% very short, 11% short, 69% adequate, and 19% surplus. Rain fell across much of the State, limiting fieldwork and slowing harvest in some areas. Many farmers are in need of dry conditions to continue harvest. Some flood damaged strawberries were replanted. Excessive amounts of rain in some areas had a negative impact on soybean, cotton and peanut crops. Pecan crop experienced scab disease. Other activities included chopping silage, servicing harvest equipment, and cutting and baling hay. County Extension Agents reported an average of 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork.
