Freezing temperatures early last week, but no reported damage from hay/forage producers. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Wet soil conditions and heavy rain near the end of the week slowed field activities this week. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Growers are finally harvesting peanuts. The area cotton crop is behind. Winter grazing is looking good. Land prep and planting of various small grains; some winter grazing planted. Soybean crop looks good and harvest about 2 weeks from start. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We only received .29 of an inch of rainfall over the past 7 days which is considerably less than previous weeks. Soybean harvest has begun. Growers cutting where they can stand up in some fields. Others continuing to harvest as beans dry down. Haying wrapping up. Cotton defoliation has begun in earnest. Growers harvesting cotton too. Peanuts have stopped maturity due to cold weather. Most have been dug. Dry weather has helped to get them out of the field. Very severe and late harvest conditions. No progress made due to rain. Expecting more rain over weekend. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Harvest of soybeans, cotton, and peanuts proceeding very slowly due to wet, cool, cloudy conditions that persist without sunshine to dry and mature crops. Peanut yield appears good and grades are very good. Dry land and irrigated soybeans will be a bright spot this year, but cotton will be a disappointment in our area. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Until this week, harvesting had been delayed by rain. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Cool weather has slowed peanut maturity. Def. cotton and digging peanuts. Hoping real late peanuts will move a little more before having to dig. Last cutting and baling of hay. Picking cotton, and peanuts. Planting winter grazing. Need some good harvest weather. Peanuts crop looks fair to good and cotton crop looks good. Tobacco crop was poor and corn weak. Soybeans look fair. Been a bad year for farmers. Tough one for us county agents too. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
