DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Heavy rain this week - major activity is the routine care of livestock and poultry DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Rain heavy in the area with more expected before weeks end. Sloppy, wet and cold. Routine care is challenging, standing water in areas. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Rainfall and plenty of it caps the past week here. We have a surplus of water and there's plenty more on the way. Rain continues to keep farmers out of their fields. Cotton and soybeans still need to be harvested. Close to 2 inches of rain fell during the week. One inch of rain fell during first part of week and now 2 to 3 inches are expected Friday and Saturday. Some wheat however was sprayed for ryegrass control this week. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Wheat planting ceased due to lateness of planting time. Acres will be down at least 30%. Wheat that is up will not get any pre-emerge weed treatment due to soggy field conditions and several fields will struggle under saturated conditions. Nothing accomplished this week in way of harvest, much too wet. It will be after the first of the year before much gets done. Wet. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Rain has delayed the harvest of cotton, soybeans and pecans. Not only is the crop itself too wet, in many areas the soil is too wet for machinery to stand up in the field. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Heavy rains are delaying final cotton acreage from being harvested and other field work from getting done such as mowing stalks and moving equipment. Too much rain has stopped cotton harvest and delayed planting of small grains. Cotton harvest of 85% may be high. Approximately 25% of our cotton has not been picked. The Lowndes county area has been very wet with more rainfall to come next three days. We need some clear dry weather to finish harvesting cotton, soybeans, pecans and some vegetable.
