One inch of snow fell on Thursday, Jan. 7th. Approximately 1/2 inches of snow accumulation yesterday afternoon/evening. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Extreme cold and 4 inches of snow has made activities difficult. Scattered snow and ice around the county; extent of crop damage is yet to be fully determined; believe the damage to be minimal; possible crops affected are strawberries, fruit trees, and possible cold damage to nursery crops. Low temperatures suppressed forage growth - light snow accumulation at the end of the week DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST Extreme cold, ground frozen in northern part of county. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL We have had temperatures very uncommon for the south. Ice and snow came in on Thursday, Jan. 7th and temps have not been over freezing for any length of time since then. Extreme cold Winter grazing growth is poor to fair due to cold. Challenging routine care of livestock. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We are awaiting the impact of the recent cold snap. We have average lows in the teens and highs in the lower 30's. Field work continues to be held up by the wet fields and cold temperatures. Livestock producers continue to break ice on water troughs and feed hay. Winter grazing showing effects of cold weather and lack of nitrogen. Still have soybeans and cotton in the fields. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Extreme cold has hurt growth on wheat for grain as well as winter grazing pastures. Combines and pickers trying to cover some ground but still sliding and even bogging down in places. Some cotton and soybean harvest underway but it is slow. At least 35% of cotton crop still in field. Wheat is struggling in soggy and cold conditions. Hard cold has ryegrass stopped, grazing has slowed and we are relying on hay. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Still scrapping pecans last week. Very cold temperatures persist. Minimal farming activity due to cold temperatures. Cold weather snap is still with us. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Cold weather. Seven nights of below freezing temperatures. This week has been very good for harvest some of the last cotton and soybean in the county. The cold weather has not damaged any crops, livestock producers are feeding heavy during this cold period. Cold weather takes negative toll on crop conditions.
