DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Below normal temperatures and snow/ice hindered activities early in the week- additional rain is expected at week's end, low temperatures have halted growth of most forages DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL The temperatures are back to average and in some cases above average. The rains continue. The ground is still saturated. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We have been cold and dry. It's too early to determine the extent of cold damage that we have experienced. Our highs have been in the 30's and 40's while our lows have been in the teens. Has been extremely cold for this region for the past week. High temps have not exceeded freezing. Extreme wet followed by extreme cold have been very troublesome to area farmers. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Cold temperatures have kept wheat and winter grazing from growing. Winter grazing pastures have not had significant re-growth. The use of hay and supplemental feed has increased dramatically. Finally able to get in the last of the soybean fields and made good progress on cotton harvest. With pickers running well into the night, we reached about 93-94% of the cotton crop harvested before more rain on Saturday. Wheat really struggling from very cold and still wet soils. Taking up to 3 weeks or more for germination/emergence. Rye is decent but ryegrass has stalled leaving little grazing. Going through hay supplies quickly. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Heavy rains coming Saturday, we still have 4% of our cotton unharvested in wet areas in the fields. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Cold and icy. Not sure of damage yet to cabbage. Small grains slowed. Farmers feeding livestock hay and alternative feeds. Still trying to get the poultry plant back or something else to help growers. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
