We need to dry out in order to get spring activities such as fertilizing and getting fields ready for planting accomplished. Real wet soils out there. It is WET, 2 1/2" of more rain last night. We had a 2 inch flood on Thursday and Friday. We received 1.35 inches of rain from Friday into Saturday. Lots of creeks and rivers out of their banks over the weekend, but better now (until the next rain comes in tonight). DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Pasture roads are being washed out as farmers try to feed cattle. Pastures/hayfields are floating. Heavy rain and some sleet this week. Some flooding may occur in low lying fields and pastures. Rain prevented all activity except routine care of livestock and poultry DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Continues to be very wet with very little plant growth. Cold and wet; soils are wet; routine care of livestock. Continues to be incredibly wet DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We are still at a surplus level in terms of rainfall. We are facing potential flooding. Rains continue. Growers trying to determine if it's worth it to fertilize what wheat is planted. Fields too wet. Extremely wet conditions continue. Animals are stressed from the weather conditions. Saturated soils are a problem for winter grass pastures. Field conditions are extremely wet. Nearly every field has some severe damage from erosion. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL More rain keeping us out of wheat that needs weed control and fertilization. Ground is still saturated. Wet. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST The soil is too wet for field work. Even many public roads, paved and dirt, are impassable. Saturated. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Wet soils and more rain on the way has slowed field work. Feeding cattle hay and small grains growing slowly, and Dec/Jan rains has prevented the planting of cover crops. Lots of soil erosion. Farmers hoping poultry plant opens soon and a few tobacco contracts have been signed. Most growers talking about planting corn and mostly cotton. Some peanuts and soybeans. Going to be a tough year. Too wet to get in fields. Excessive rainfall has leached most of the nitrogen fertilizer from wheat fields. Yield will be impacted if farmers don't make follow-up applications of nitrogen in some fields. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
