Very cold and wet conditions keep farmers out of fields. WET AND COLD. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Fields still wet and snowfall is forecasted for this afternoon - major activities include pruning of commercial vineyards and the routine care of livestock and poultry DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST Too much rain has ruined many pastures. Fall over seeding most likely a failure for many farmers. Precipitation continues to soak fields. This week it came in the form of 4 inches of snow that melted by the next day. Ryegrass crop marginal at best. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL We continue to have unseasonably cold conditions with above "normal" rainfall. We have had several reports from local cattle farmers of cattle losses that thus far have been unaccounted for. Wet just won't describe it any longer; soils are saturated; routine care of livestock gets worse everyday. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL The combination of rain and cold while having beneficial effects have surely had some negatives. We have experienced some flooding and erosion in some fields. The 1.82 inches of rainfall will likely be compounded by more to come. Conditions are so wet farmers are having difficulty getting around their pastures. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Got a little wheat weed herbicide put out by plane and managed to fertilize a few fields that were barely dry enough before the snow. Raining again now. Wheat won't be much and we need dry weather to repair field washes before corn planting. Soils continue to remain saturated. Wheat condition is dropping due to the wet conditions. Snow on Friday night and Saturday morning. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Extremely wet, and cold. Most ground is still too waterlogged for equipment to stand up in fields. Remains not for any significant full work in row crops. Winter grazing low - supplemental feeding of rations to livestock above normal due to poor winter grazing conditions. Significant increase in fuel heating costs for poultry producers. Continued rain, wet conditions, and a slight bit of snow stopped work in the fields again. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Rainy, wet and some snowfall. Cabbage and small grains are suffering. Feeding livestock and equipment repair. This week has been very cold and wet. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
