DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Sunny, warm conditions led to improved crop conditions this week. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST Spring finally arrives in Habersham. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Producers are starting to burn down cotton and peanut land. It is getting dry in some areas. Soil temps are hitting 60 and it looks like spring. Soil temps are beginning to hit 60. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We only received .97 of an inch of rainfall which is very important as we have been well behind in our planting plans. Field work going full speed. Corn planting. Repairing fields due to erosion. Topsoil drying out fast. Small grains progressing nicely. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Wheat planted during optimum time of mid-November is very close to flag leaf emergence. Most all the crop is jointing, but is still 2-3 weeks behind schedule. Warm weather should speed up growth. Corn was planted in damp soil, but sun and wind has created a lot of topsoil crust so some will have to be watered up to a stand. We are drying out rapidly and many growers have ceased planting until they can irrigate dry fields. Lack of an Easter cold spell will have our few acres of produce being planted early. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST No comments available. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Corn planting wrapping up. Preparing soil for cotton and some peanuts. Soil testing late and applying lime and fertilizer. Harrowing fields. Feeding livestock hay. Mowing and harrowing fields trying to clean up and fix erosion are as due to excessive rainfall. This has been the first week of clear weather that continued field work has occurred. This field action will get many farm start planting and transplanting crops for 2010. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
