DISTRICT COMMENTS April 25, 2010 DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST Saturday brought thunderstorms and a round of hail at midday. Two inches of rain last week, most of it on Saturday. Still lots of standing water after storms on Saturday, but no major flooding. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL We got 2 plus inches of rain over the weekend. Major activities include spreading fertilizer in pastures and hayfields and tillage prior to corn planting. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Until Saturday, April 24 we had been a couple of weeks without rain and had started to get dry. Saturday was very stormy, with a good amount of rain. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We are picking up our planting rates quite well. We haven't had much rainfall lately. We had a trace of rainfall on Tuesday, April 20. Finally got a good rain in April. 1.5 inches fell Saturday over most of the county. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL This report was done on Thursday afternoon. Significant rains are predicted for Saturday night and Sunday that could change crop conditions drastically. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Rain is needed. Moisture has still been okay for planting cotton and soil temperatures are above minimum levels for getting cotton seed in the ground. Rain showers have increased soil moisture and should help stimulate more planting this upcoming week. Got about 1/2 inch of rainfall. Applying fertilizer to corn. Bedding land for planting. Applying burn down herbicides for conservation tillage planting. Feeding livestock hay and alt. feeds. Planting millets and sorghum sudan grass for grazing. Applying fertilizers and lime to field before planting. Tobacco setting is about over. Set out TSWV test plots in Tobacco to monitor % TSWV in tobacco. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL This week we received .3 to 1' of rainfall, this was a very timely rain our crops needed the rain. Our night time temperatures have been in the upper 40's, these low temperatures are not good for peanuts and cotton planting. We need some warm nights to get good stands of peanuts and cotton. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
