DISTRICT COMMENTS June 6, 2010 DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST Scattered thunderstorms slowing down many agricultural practices - hay harvest, soybean planting, etc. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Scattered thunderstorms all week - some weed control in corn and spraying of commercial vineyards this week. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Some locations got scattered showers everyday but good rain county wide is keeping soil moisture at good levels; planting soybeans, putting in hay, prepping for wheat harvest; routine care of livestock. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We received the following .48, .11, .77, and .04 during the past 7 days. Recent rains replenish soil moisture. Our area has been getting daily rains since Memorial Day weekend. Pasture and hay fields are in optimum production right now. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Still getting enough scattered showers to keep planting and some places are even too wet. All stands look good, some thrips in cotton, corn tasseling, good weed control overall due to timely rains activating pre-emerge herbicide. Grass growing well. Wheat harvest underway, finished in many places but yields and test weight are average or slightly under. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Rains have provided much needed soil moisture, but are impeding field activities. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Getting daily rains. Planting almost complete. Crops got that million dollar rain this week. Had some washing of fields and some tobacco drowned? Amount of damaged not yet determined. We received rainfall in most of county during this week. The crops are looking good after these rains, need the rains to continue. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
