DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Hot conditions this week rapidly depleting soil moisture. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST Heat sapping soil moisture rapidly. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Rains extremely spotty; heat and dry weather are taking their toll on dryland crops. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We are starting to see some tell-tale signs that the heat is affecting us. Corn is starting to stress and we're seeing pastures and lawns brown up. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL Rain showers have been scattered. They have helped maintain good crop conditions where they have occurred. Extreme heat is affecting peanut blooms and is an overall negative on crop conditions. Got a good .75" shower over the Louisville area last night (Sunday) but showers continue to be widely scattered. Many areas suffering greatly from dry and extreme heat conditions. Luckily, several areas with moisture deficits have cotton/peanuts in the very early stages of bloom with time to get rain and make a crop. Have had some TBW/cutworm outbreaks in peanuts. Square retention is good in young cotton. Late planted soybeans, planted after June 10, are struggling to come up and partial stands are evident in many places where growers were planting in marginal soil conditions. Corn got pollinated OK and much of it is denting but even irrigation can't keep up with 96-100 degree days. No new disease discoveries or reports. Cotton has been side-dressed and peanuts are being laid-by with a boron, DB or Cadre and fungicide application Weed control is still good although growers like the Valor and Reflex so much they are tempted to use it too much possibly compromising good herbicide resistance management. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Still drying out and need some nice steady rain to bring up moisture levels in dry areas. Heat wave has caused some pollination issues in corn. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Watermelon market is flooded and has been from the beginning. This year will be a financial loss for most, if not all, watermelon growers. Cotton and peanut prospects look good so far this season. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
