DISTRICT COMMENTS July 4, 2010 DISTRICT 1 - NORTHWEST Scattered sprinkles the last week, nothing worth calling rain. DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Isolated rain showers this week, wet a lot of hay before it was baled. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Our area of north Georgia has become very dry in the past 2 weeks. This combined with high temperatures has resulted in an extremely quick drying out of the land. Spotty rainfall in areas. Hot and dry conditions. Need rain; June rain rec'd less than 1/2 average; crops holding fair to good in spite of it. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We've had 4 days of heavy rainfall over the past 7 days. As a result, we have a slowdown of field work with high temps and rainfall. The heat is sapping soil moisture with little being replaced due to few rains. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL No comments available. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Watermelons unsold and wasting away. Excellent yield outlook so far on Peanuts, Corn, and Cotton. Pecan numbers include yard (unmanaged) acreage. Items without numbers are crops with very minor or no acreage DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Wet, Wet, Wet. Concern about drowning and not being able to apply chemicals and fertilizers timely. Diseases are a big concern but so far so good. Crop in general looks good. This week county received good rainfall in most of the county. The rains helped turn the crops around, also the rains reducing the hot weather in south Georgia. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
