DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL We finally saw some rain this week. Pop-up showers came through last night and this past Thursday. Areas of the county received 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches of total rainfall. Isolated showers late in the week DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Hot, dry, spotty rainfall. Dryland crops, pastures and hayfields suffering. Routine care of livestock and poultry; cutting and baling hay and waiting on soil moisture via some rain which isn't happening. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We have been in the midst of a severe heat wave recently. The temperatures have been through the roof in terms of the 90's. Crops have been unaffected as yet, but that could change if we don't receive any rainfall. Need rain. Topsoil moisture has been depleted. Good subsoil moisture still. Hot temperatures taking toll on farmers/producers as well as crops. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL The crops in the "droughty areas" of the county are really showing stress. We have some areas that are extremely dry. High heat may have reduced corn yield potential. Spraying cotton for plant bugs and TBW's found in some peanut fields. One field of corn sprayed second time for southern rust. Boron and PGR's being applied to cotton and soil fungicides on peanuts. Late season weed control pretty much hopeless in fields where pigweeds escaped both pre-emerge and post-emerge sprays. Luckily, these fields are not the norm, we have pretty good weed control throughout county. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Beginning to dry out in some areas of SW GA. This past week we had numerous afternoon and evening showers. Our temperatures were moderated by cloud cover. This week has seen an about face. Showers are few and far between and temperatures are back in the upper 90's with the heat index topping 100 degrees. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Timely rains have been good for our row crops in Lowndes County this past week. The crops appear to be in good shape at this reporting period. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
