DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Corn silage harvest completed, wine grape harvest has begun, heavy rain across the county last Saturday improved soil moisture levels and crop conditions. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Some much needed rain rec'd over most of county last week improved soil moisture conditions; some armyworm activity mostly in millet. Incredibly dry. Areas in all directions appear to be getting somewhat regular rains. The center of county has not been receiving any rain of late. Very, very dry. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL We stand at a -.17 of an inch rainfall deficit. Scattered rains around county; still have areas that are needing rain; corn harvest continues; haying continues; armyworms still causes damage on hay field and pastures; soybeans podding; peanuts looking good. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL A couple fields of cotton have been defoliated. Also, several irrigated fields of peanuts are showing 17 days from digging. Corn harvest is almost done. Armyworms are hatching again in hayfields. Armyworms are still causing problems in hay and pastures. White mold is terrible causing yield reductions in peanuts and some soybean fields. Cotton boll rot has hurt yields because of the past 2-3 weeks rainy, overcast weather. Been getting spotty but hard rain showers dumping .5" - 2" in small areas. Many dry land cotton fields were hurt with "hard lock" from rain just as bolls were opening. Have about an equal amount of poor dry land fields and good dry land fields so the dry land cotton average will probably be fair. Spotty rains have produced an "up and down" crop with fields separated by one mile with potential yields 400lbs apart. No real disease problems in soybeans and growers are spraying fungicides with more activity on white mold to suppress the spread of small pockets of this disease. Leaf spot induced by potassium deficiency being found on cotton. Peanuts appear to be maturing early with some irrigated Ga-06G's that will probably be dug at 125 days. Corn, which is about 90% irrigated in our county, could very well top 200 bu/A for a county average this year. Having reinfestations for armyworms in pastures. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Pastures, hay fields and grain sorghum continue to have pressure from armyworms. The past week we have had several overcast days. This has slowed corn harvest down some. Disease pressure is still high due to the environmental conditions. Getting ready for the first UGA football game. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Daily rains. Bolls opening and corn harvest. Spraying foliar fertilizers, insecticides and pix on cotton. Spraying peanuts for soil borne diseases. White mold showing up. Cutting hay in between rains. This past week has been very good weather wise for crop production. The rains have been timely, not to much, just right for most of the county. Cotton defoliation has started this week and will be increasing over the next 14 days. Most of this is dryland, low quality, low yield cotton (which accounts for approximately 30 percent of our crop). DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
