DISTRICT 2 - NORTH CENTRAL Experienced two frosts this week. Major activities include routine care of livestock and poultry and primary tillage of small grain fields prior to planting. Rain needed. DISTRICT 3 - NORTHEAST No comments available. DISTRICT 4 - WEST CENTRAL Hot and dry; winter wheat planting holding for soil moisture. DISTRICT 5 - CENTRAL Middle of peanut harvest, most cotton defoliated, soybeans starting to be harvested. DISTRICT 6 - EAST CENTRAL No comments available. DISTRICT 7 - SOUTHWEST Dry. Typical mid-October, cooler, lower humidity, & dry. Beginning to pick irrigated peanuts & irrigated cotton. Yields are going up and quality is better now. Irrigated cotton yields are somewhat disappointing. Extreme heat and lack of rainfall during critical times seem to have caused lower than expected irrigated cotton yields. Harvest continues to go well. Starting to dry out. DISTRICT 8 - SOUTH CENTRAL Many dryland peanuts being dug early due to stress but yields and grades are good to excellent. Cotton harvest is mixed; 800-1200 pound yields. Some varieties not doing as good due to hot dry season. Defoliating cotton and picking cotton and digging peanuts and wrapping up harvest. Yields on peanuts averaging 3500-5000 pounds. Cool weather has slowed maturity of peanuts and caused defoliation rates of cotton to go up. Overall excellent harvest weather. DISTRICT 9 - SOUTHEAST No comments available.
