Kleweno E-mail: nass-ga@nass.usda.gov Director Website: http://www.nass.usda.gov/ga 706-546-2236 BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA DOWN 4 PERCENT BROILER EGGS SET DOWN 6 PERCENT Placement of broiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending August 8, 2009 was 26.4 million, down 2 percent from the previous week, but down 4 percent from the comparable week last year, according to the USDA, NASS, Georgia Field Office. An estimated 31.3 million broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries, up slightly from the previous week, but down 6 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Broiler-type chicks hatched during the week totaled 26.8 million, up 2 percent from the previous week, but down 4 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched in Georgia was 84 percent.
