Temperatures remained average to above average over the week as well. Producers averaged 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Planting oats and topdressing wheat were the major activities. Topsoil moisture was rated 2 percent very short, 8 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 3 percent very short, 24 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Field Crop Report: Wheat condition was rated 6 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Two percent of the wheat is jointed, one point behind both last year and the 5-year average. Wheat freeze damage reports indicate 81 percent of the wheat has not been damaged, 17 percent received light damage, and 2 percent received moderate damage. Early reports estimate 6 percent of the wheat has been lost to winterkill. Reports of wind damage indicate 86 percent of the wheat has no wind damage, 12 percent received light damage, and 1 percent each received moderate and severe damage respectively. Insect infestation reports indicate 94 percent of the wheat showed no infestation and 6 percent showed light infestation. Disease infestation reports estimate 86 percent with no presence and 14 percent with light presence. Sixteen percent of oat acreage has been planted compared to 40 percent last year and 30 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated 9 percent very poor, 21 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 28 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 5 percent very short, 20 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 23 percent very short, 43 percent short, 33 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 21 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Some reporters indicated calving was progressing nicely and nearly complete in their area.
