Temperatures were above average during the week, with highs reaching just over 80 degrees. Producers averaged 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork. Field activities in many areas were again delayed due to weather and soil conditions. Topsoil moisture was rated 3 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 1 percent very short, 10 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Field Crop Report: Eighty-three percent of the wheat is jointed, compared to 89 percent last year and 75 percent for the 5-year average. Two percent is headed, compared to 18 percent last year and 5 percent for the 5-year average. Wheat condition was rated 22 percent very poor, 19 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 24 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Wheat freeze damage reports indicate 27 percent of the wheat has not been damaged, 20 percent received light damage, 24 percent received moderate damage, and 29 percent received severe damage. Reporter comments indicate freeze damage to wheat in their areas is becoming more evident but can vary from field to field. Early planted wheat or early maturing varieties appear to have experienced the greater freeze damage. Reports of wind damage indicate 80 percent of the wheat has no wind damage, 17 percent received light damage, and 3 percent received moderate damage. Insect infestation reports indicate 75 percent of the wheat showed no infestation, 17 percent showed light infestation, 6 percent showed moderate infestation, and 2 percent showed severe infestation. Disease infestation reports estimate 64 percent with no presence, 27 percent with light presence, and 9 percent with moderate presence. Some powdery mildew and wheat streak mosaic has been reported in the central areas of the State. Fifteen percent of the corn has been planted, compared to 46 percent last year and 36 percent for the 5-year average. One percent is emerged, compared to 15 percent last year and 9 percent for the 5-year average. Eighty-five percent of oats have been planted, compared to 90 percent last year and 92 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated 2 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 46 percent fair, 31 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 19 percent short, and 79 percent adequate. Hay and forage supplies were rated 15 percent very short, 43 percent short, and 42 percent adequate. Stock water supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 7 percent short, 87 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.
