Producers averaged 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Planting corn was the primary field activity, though activities in some areas continued to be delayed due to weather and soil conditions. Topsoil moisture was rated 3 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 8 percent short, 89 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Field Crop Report: Ninety-two percent of the wheat is jointed, compared to 97 percent last year and 87 percent for the 5-year average. Seven percent is headed, compared to 44 percent last year and 18 percent for the 5-year average. Wheat condition was rated 19 percent very poor, 18 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 25 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Wheat freeze damage reports indicate 25 percent of the wheat has not been damaged, 24 percent received light damage, 26 percent received moderate damage, and 25 percent received severe damage. Reporter comments continue to indicate that early planted and early maturing wheat varieties appear to have experienced more freeze damage and later planted wheat appears to have escaped severe freeze damage. Reports of wind damage indicate 79 percent of the wheat has no wind damage, 19 percent received light damage, and 2 percent received moderate damage. Insect infestation reports indicate 74 percent of the wheat showed no infestation, 17 percent showed light infestation, 6 percent showed moderate infestation, and 3 percent showed severe infestation. Disease infestation reports estimate 61 percent with no presence, 27 percent with light presence, 11 percent with moderate presence, and 1 percent with severe presence. Some powdery mildew and wheat streak mosaic has been reported in the central areas of the State. Thirty- one percent of the corn has been planted, compared to 65 percent last year and 54 percent for the 5-year average. Seven percent is emerged, compared to 30 percent last year and 20 percent for the 5-year average. Eighty-nine percent of oats have been planted, compared to 94 percent last year and 95 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated 2 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 36 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 17 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 14 percent very short, 37 percent short, 48 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 90 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Some reporters indicated cattle were being moved to pasture in their areas.
