Planting corn and spraying wheat were the primary field activities. Topsoil moisture was rated 5 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 27 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 1 percent very short, 7 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 18 percent surplus. Field Crop Report: Ninety-nine percent of the wheat is jointed, one point behind last year but one point ahead of the 5- year average. Fifty percent is headed, compared to 83 percent last year and 71 percent for the 5-year average. Wheat condition was rated 13 percent very poor, 19 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 25 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Wheat freeze damage reports indicate 38 percent of the wheat has not been damaged, 20 percent received light damage, 24 percent received moderate damage, and 18 percent received severe damage. Reports of wind damage indicate 80 percent of the wheat has no wind damage, 16 percent received light damage, and 4 percent received moderate damage. Insect infestation reports indicate 60 percent of the wheat showed no infestation, 27 percent showed light infestation, 9 percent showed moderate infestation, and 4 percent showed severe infestation. Reporter comments indicated some producers were spraying for alfalfa weevil. Disease infestation reports estimate 39 percent with no presence, 32 percent with light presence, 23 percent with moderate presence, and 6 percent with severe presence. Leaf rust was reported in the central and northwest areas of the State. Seventy-six percent of the corn has been planted, compared to 88 percent for both last year and the 5-year average. Thirty-seven percent is emerged, compared to 59 percent last year and 52 percent for the 5-year average. Nine percent of the soybeans have been planted, compared to 11 percent last year and 21 percent for the 5-year average. One percent is emerged, compared to 3 percent last year and 6 percent for the 5-year average. Three percent of the sorghum has been planted, compared to 10 percent last year and 12 percent for the 5- year average. Three percent of the first cutting alfalfa has been harvested, compared to 9 percent last year and 22 percent for the 5-year average. Ninety-seven percent of oats have been planted, the same as last year but one point behind the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated 1 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 14 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 10 percent very short, 35 percent short, 54 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated 5 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus.
