Temperatures were slightly above average. Producers averaged 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork. Spraying and ground preparations for fall planting continued as the primary activities. Topsoil moisture was rated 6 percent very short, 27 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 4 percent very short, 25 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Field Crop Report: Sixty-two percent of the corn is in the dough stage, compared to 67 percent last year and 58 percent for the 5-year average. Sixteen percent has dented, compared to 27 percent last year and 21 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Eighty-two percent of the soybeans have bloomed, compared to 89 percent last year and 84 percent for the 5- year average. Forty-six percent is setting pods, compared to 57 percent last year and 52 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Forty-six percent of the sorghum has headed, compared to 53 percent for last year and 51 percent for the 5- year average. Two percent is coloring, compared to 5 percent last year and 6 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Sixty-one percent of the third cutting alfalfa has been harvested, compared to 72 percent last year and 71 percent for the 5-year average. Four percent of the fourth cutting alfalfa has been harvested, the same as last year but 3 points behind the 5-year average. Forty-three percent of the sunflowers have bloomed, compared to 44 percent last year and 45 percent for the 5-year average. One percent is in the ray flowers dry stage, compared to 2 percent last year and 7 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 45 percent fair, 40 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Seventy-five percent of the cotton is setting bolls, compared to 86 percent last year and 50 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition was rated 5 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated 3 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 11 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 15 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated 6 percent short, 90 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.
