Spraying and ground preparations for fall planting were the primary activities, though some hay was baled and some silage was cut. Topsoil moisture was rated 13 percent very short, 53 percent short, 33 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated 5 percent very short, 40 percent short, 54 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Field Crop Report: Ninety percent of the corn is in the dough stage, compared to 85 percent last year and 87 percent for the 5-year average. Sixty-four percent has dented, compared to 61 percent last year and 55 percent for the 5-year average. Eleven percent is mature, compared to 22 percent last year and 15 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Ninety-one percent of the soybeans have bloomed, compared to 97 percent last year and 95 percent for the 5-year average. Sixty-nine percent is setting pods, compared to 82 percent last year and 79 percent for the 5-year average. One percent is dropping leaves, compared to 6 percent last year and 4 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Eighty-five percent of the sorghum has headed, compared to 79 percent for last year and 76 percent for the 5-year average. Twenty-two percent is coloring, compared to 28 percent last year and 23 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Ninety percent of the third cutting alfalfa has been harvested, compared to 88 percent for both last year and the 5-year average. Twenty-one percent of the fourth cutting alfalfa has been harvested, compared to 23 percent for both last year and the 5-year average. Eighty-three percent of the sunflowers have bloomed, compared to 74 percent last year and 81 percent for the 5-year average. Ten percent is in the ray flowers dry stage, compared to 17 percent last year and 23 percent for the 5-year average. One percent is in the bracts yellow stage. Sunflower condition was rated 3 percent poor, 69 percent fair, 23 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. One hundred percent of the cotton is setting bolls, compared to 99 percent last year and 76 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition was rated 15 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated 4 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 12 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 15 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 11 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.
