Producers averaged 3.1 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture is rated at 3 percent very short, 9 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 23 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated at 5 percent very short, 13 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus. Primary farm activities involved top dressing wheat, weed control, sowing corn, and alfalfa seeding. Field Crop Report: Wheat is estimated to be 40 percent jointed, compared to 82 percent in 2007 and 76 percent for a 5-year average. Wheat condition is rated as 6 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Wind damage to the wheat crop across the state is 86 percent no damage, 10 percent having light damage, 3 percent with moderate damage, and 1 percent with severe wind damage. Freeze damage to wheat is being rated as 92 percent with no damage, 7 percent with light damage, and 1 percent of the wheat having moderate freeze damage. Insect infestation of the wheat crop is rated at 85 percent none, 13 percent light, and 2 percent moderate. Disease infestation is rated at 83 percent none, 15 percent light, and 2 percent moderate. Eight percent of Corn has been planted, compared to 12 percent last year and 29 percent for the 5-year average. Oats planting is 95 percent complete, compared to 84 percent for 2007 and 89 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated as 7 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 3 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 12 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 17 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated at 3 percent very short, 7 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus. Livestock activities primarily involved calving and lambing around the State. Some areas reported cattle being placed on wheat and rye pasture, as well as regular summer pastures.
