Producers averaged 4.1 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture is rated at 5 percent very short, 10 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 20 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated at 6 percent very short, 16 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus. Primary farm activity involved top dressing wheat, weed control, and sowing corn and sorghum. Field Crop Report: Wheat is estimated at 60 percent jointed, compared to 89 percent in 2007 and 90 percent for a 5-year average. Wheat condition is rated 6 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Wind damage to the wheat crop across the state is 85 percent no damage, 9 percent having light damage, 5 percent with moderate damage, and 1 percent with severe wind damage. Freeze damage to wheat is being rated at 90 percent with no damage, 9 percent with light damage, and 1 percent having moderate freeze damage. Insect infestation of the wheat crop is rated at 83 percent none, 15 percent light, and 2 percent moderate. Disease infestation is rated at 77 percent none, 20 percent light, and 3 percent moderate. Eighteen percent of corn has been planted, compared to 26 percent last year and 45 percent for the 5-year average. Corn emerged is 2 percent, compared to 5 percent in 2007, and 15 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated at 8 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 11 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 18 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated at 3 percent very short, 9 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Some areas reported cattle being placed on wheat and rye pasture, as well as regular summer pastures.
