Producers averaged 5.3 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture is rated at 4 percent very short, 13 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated at 5 percent very short, 14 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus. Primary farm activity involved weed and fungus control in wheat, and planting corn, soybeans, and sorghum. Field Crop Report: Wheat is estimated at 78 percent jointed, compared to 96 percent for both previous year and the 5- year average. Three percent of the crop is headed, compared to 16 percent last year and 32 percent for the 5-year average. Wheat condition is rated 4 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 34 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Wind damage to the wheat crop across the State is 88 percent no damage, 10 percent having light damage, and 2 percent with moderate damage. Freeze damage to wheat is rated at 91 percent with no damage, 8 percent with light damage, and 1 percent having moderate damage. Insect infestation of the wheat crop is rated at 82 percent none, 15 percent light, and 3 percent moderate. Disease infestation is rated at 73 percent none, 21 percent light, 5 percent moderate, and 1 percent severe. Forty-two percent of corn has been planted, compared to 44 percent last year and 63 percent for the 5-year average. Ten percent has emerged, compared to 13 percent in 2007, and 26 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated at 7 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 40 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 9 percent short, 89 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 13 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated at 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus. Cattle continue to be placed on wheat and rye pasture, as well as regular summer pastures.
