Producers averaged 3.1 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture is rated at 4 percent very short, 9 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 28 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated at 5 percent very short, 12 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus. Primary farm activity involved weed and fungus control in wheat, sowing corn, soybeans, and sorghum. Field Crop Report: Wheat is estimated at 91 percent jointed, compared to 98 percent for the previous year and 99 percent for the 5-year average. The crop is 19 percent headed, compared to 41 percent last year and 61 percent for a 5- year average. Wheat condition is rated 6 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Insect infestation of the wheat crop is rated at 83 percent none, 13 percent light, 3 percent moderate, and 1 percent severe. Disease infestation is rated at 69 percent none, 22 percent light, 7 percent moderate, and 2 percent severe. Sixty-five percent of the corn has been planted, compared to 68 percent last year and 81 percent for the 5-year average. Twenty-two percent has emerged, compared to 31 percent in 2007, and 43 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Five percent of the sorghum has been planted, compared to 2 percent last year and 8 percent for the 5-year average. Four percent of the soybeans have been planted, compared to 7 percent last year and 15 percent for the 5- year average. Three percent of the first cutting alfalfa has been harvested, compared to 2 percent last year and 18 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated at 6 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 12 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 13 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated at 2 percent very short, 6 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus.
