Producers averaged 3.7 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture is rated at 6 percent very short, 7 percent short, 60 percent adequate, and 27 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated at 6 percent very short, 11 percent short, 64 percent adequate, and 19 percent surplus. Primary farm activity involved cutting hay, beginning wheat harvest, herbicide spraying on row crops, and planting of soybeans, sorghum, and sunflowers. Field Crop Report: Wheat is estimated at 94 percent turning, compared to 97 percent in 2007 and 99 percent for the 5-year average. Thirty-eight percent is considered ripe for harvest, compared to 65 previous year and 76 percent for the 5-year average. Wheat harvest is 6 percent complete, compared to 15 percent last year and 36 percent for the 5-year average. Wheat condition is rated 8 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 34 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Corn condition is rated 2 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Seventy-three percent of the sorghum has been planted, compared to 86 percent last year and 88 percent for the 5-year average. Fifty percent has emerged, compared to 67 percent in 2007 and 74 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 63 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Seventy-eight percent of the soybeans have been planted, compared to 85 percent last year and 91 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans are 70 percent emerged, compared to 74 percent in 2007 and 83 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated 1 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Five percent of cotton is squaring, compared to 4 percent for both the previous year and the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated 10 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Seventy percent of sunflowers have been planted, compared to 81 percent for both the previous year and the 5-year average. Thirty-three percent of sunflowers have emerged, compared to 53 percent in 2007 and 60 percent for the 5-year average. Ninety-six percent of the first cutting alfalfa has been completed, compared to 97 percent last year and 99 percent for the 5-year average. Second cutting is 21 percent completed, compared to 28 percent for 2007 and 36 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated at 6 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 4 percent very short, 9 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 88 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated at 2 percent very short, 4 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 15 percent surplus.
