Producers averaged 5.5 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture is rated at 14 percent very short, 28 percent short, 56 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated at 12 percent very short, 24 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Primary farm activities involved cutting hay, irrigating and spraying herbicides on row crops. Field Crop Report: Corn is 94 percent silked, compared to 99 percent in 2007 and 98 percent for the 5-year average. Forty-six percent is in the dough stage, compared to 57 percent last year and 55 percent for the 5-year average. Seven percent has dented, compared to 14 percent in 2007 and 16 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Sorghum is 34 percent headed, compared to 39 percent for the previous year and 45 percent for the 5-year average. Two percent is coloring, the same as last year but behind the 5-year average of 4 percent. Sorghum condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 3 percent excellent. Soybeans are 77 percent blooming, compared to 79 percent last year and 82 percent for the 5-year average. Forty-one percent are setting pods, compared to 43 percent previous year and 47 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Forty percent of cotton is setting bolls, compared to 61 percent for the previous year and 51 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated 5 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 45 percent fair, 30 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Twenty-two percent of sunflowers are blooming, compared to 42 percent last year and 38 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated 7 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 62 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Fifty-seven percent of the third cutting of alfalfa has been completed, the same as last year but behind the 5-year average of 65 percent. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated at 11 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 3 percent very short, 9 percent short, 87 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 8 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated at 5 percent very short, 7 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.
