Producers across the State averaged 4.4 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture is rated at 3 percent very short, 16 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated at 8 percent very short, 20 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus. Primary farm activities involved cutting hay, preparing for wheat planting, harvesting high moisture corn, and cutting corn and sorghum silage. Field Crop Report: Ninety-seven percent of the corn is in the dough stage, compared to 100 percent last year and 99 percent for the 5-year average. Eighty-five percent has dented, compared to 96 percent in 2007 and 92 percent for the 5-year average. Twenty-eight percent has matured, compared to 56 percent last year and 54 percent for the 5-year average. Three percent has been harvested, compared to 15 percent for both 2007 and the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated 2 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Ninety-two percent of the sorghum is headed, compared to 99 percent for the previous year and 95 percent for the 5-year average. Fifty-two percent is coloring, compared to 74 percent last year and 63 percent for the 5- year average. Five percent is mature, compared to 7 percent in 2007 and 12 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Ninety-three percent of the soybeans are setting pods, compared to 98 percent for both previous year and the 5-year average. Nine percent are dropping leaves, compared to 25 percent last year and 24 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated 4 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Fifteen percent of the cotton is in the bolls open stage, compared to 1 percent last year and 12 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated 5 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Ninety-two percent of the sunflowers are blooming, compared to 100 percent last year and 97 percent for the 5- year average. Forty-two percent is in the ray flower dry stage, compared to 53 percent in 2007 and 59 percent for the 5-year average. Fifteen percent is in the bracts yellow stage, compared to 22 percent for the previous year and 29 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated 5 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 62 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Forty-seven percent of the fourth cutting of alfalfa has been completed, compared to 55 percent for the previous year and 52 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated at 4 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 10 percent short, 87 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated 6 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated at 7 percent short, 88 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.
