Producers across the State averaged 6.7 days suitable for field work. Topsoil moisture is rated as 7 percent very short, 21 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 8 percent very short, 15 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Primary farm activities involved cutting hay, planting wheat, and harvesting corn, soybeans, sorghum, and sunflowers. Field Crop Report: Sixty-four percent of the wheat has been planted compared to 50 percent in 2007 and 59 percent for the 5-year average. Thirty-one percent has emerged, compared to 19 percent previous year and 27 percent for the 5-year average. Eighty-four percent of corn is mature, compared to 99 percent last year and 97 percent for the 5-year average. Thirty-four percent has been harvested, compared to 65 percent for 2007 and 63 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition is rated as 2 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Ninety percent of the sorghum is coloring, compared to 100 percent last year and 95 percent for the 5-year average. Forty-one percent is mature, compared to 76 percent for 2007 and 63 percent for the 5-year average. Ten percent has been harvested, compared to 23 percent last year and 24 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Seventy-six percent of soybeans are dropping leaves, compared to 83 percent last year and 85 percent for the 5-year average. Twenty-one percent has been harvested, compared to 23 percent previous year and 25 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition is rated as 4 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Sixty-five percent of cotton is in the bolls open stage, compared to 53 percent last year and 52 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton condition is rated as 5 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Ninety-three percent of the sunflowers are in the ray flower dry stage, compared to 98 percent in 2007 and 95 percent for the 5-year average. Eighty-two percent are in the bracts yellow stage, compared to 85 percent for the previous year and 86 percent for the 5-year average. Twenty-nine percent is mature, compared to 53 percent for last year and 55 for the 5-year average. Three percent has been harvested, compared to 12 percent in 2007 and 17 percent for the 5-year average. Sunflower condition is rated as 5 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Eighty percent of the fourth cutting of alfalfa has been completed, compared to 84 percent last year and 83 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture conditions were rated as 6 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 4 percent very short, 8 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 1 percent very short, 10 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated as 1 percent very short, 4 percent short, 91 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.
