Producers averaged 2.4 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture is rated as 6 percent very short, 23 percent short, 54 percent adequate, and 17 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated as 6 percent very short, 21 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Field work has been limited this past week, with preparations under way for row crop seeding. Field Crop Report: Twenty percent of the wheat has jointed, compared to 17 percent last year, and 34 percent for the 5-year average. The wheat condition is rated as 4 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 44 percent fair, 36 percent good, and 3 percent excellent. Wind damage to wheat has been rated at 68 percent with no damage, 22 percent with light damage, 8 percent with moderate damage, and 2 percent with severe damage. Freeze damage has been rated at 76 percent with no damage, 19 percent with light damage, and 5 percent with moderate freeze damage. Insect infestation of the wheat crop is rated at 83 percent none, 14 percent light, 2 percent moderate, and 1 percent severe. Disease infestation is rated at 82 percent none, 15 percent light, and 3 percent moderate. Oats planting is 93 percent complete, compared to 89 percent in 2008, and 75 percent for the 5-year average. Feed Supplies Report: Range and pasture condition is rated as 9 percent very poor, 18 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 34 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Feed grain supplies were rated as 8 percent short, 91 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Hay and forage supplies were rated as 11 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were estimated as 1 percent very short, 13 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.
